The TDC has always been an important conference for 9-1-1 professionals interested in technical issues related to public safety. Today, that importance has escalated to a new level given the events of September 11.
New this year is a general session that will address contingency planning and survivability of 9-1-1 systems, including the network, database, and CPE. Key issues introduced in that general session will then be identified, characterized, and prioritized in each respective track session. New Study Groups and Joint Study Groups will be formed to begin working on ways to ensure increased survivability of 9-1-1 systems either through new programs and procedures, or by developing new recommended standards where needed. That’s the way the TDC works, and you need to be a part of it.
Also new is a detailed examination of next generation networks and how we expect to migrate from today’s networks to them. Subject matter experts will explain what will likely happen in the future and how it impacts 9-1-1.
Finally, we will examine emerging technologies that will certainly impact 9-1-1 over the next several years. Telematics/Short Message Service (SMS), XML data, new CPE technologies, and Medical help desk technologies all will be examined in detail.
Of course, adequate time is allowed for the work of NENA’s Technical Committees on items of relevance to each committee. Track leaders will review progress on the development of new recommended standards and the work of Study Groups and Joint Study Groups, and encourage discussion related to each of the general session topics.
So register now for the 2002 TDC. It’s more important now than ever to attend.
Sincerely,
Charlie Bonney, ENP
