Over the past several years, school and workplace violencehas become an important issue for public safety dispatchers. Workplace or schoolincidents accounted for thousands of injuries and hundreds of deaths. WI-NENArecognizes this, and is bringing in Kevin Willett from Public Safety TrainingConsultants to discuss this topic in a pre-conference course this fall prior toour annual state conference (Sunday, Sept. 30th). This class willprepare dispatch professionals to recognize and respond appropriately to apotential workplace or school event.

 

The course will cover the profile of a suspect, calls totake seriously prior to a major event, lessons learned in high profile casesincluding Littleton (Columbine High), Paduka, Springfield, Jonesboro andConyers, the dispatchers tactical role and response, pre-planning strategies,prevention methods used to avert an incident, threat assessment, statistics, andhow progressive agencies prepare to handle these events.
