TRAINING LEGISLATION FOR THE STATE OF IOWA

RELATING TO THE ESTABLISHMENT OF MINIMUMSTANDARDS FOR THE TRAINING OF TELECOMMUNICATORS.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THESTATE OF IOWA:

Section 1. Section 80B.11, Code 1995, isamended by adding the following new subsection:

NEW SUBSECTION. 8A MinimumQualifications for instructors in telecommunicator trainingschools.

Sec. 2. NEW SECTION. 80B.11CTELECOMMUNICATOR TRAINING STANDARDS.

The director of the academy, subject to theapproval of the council, in consultation with the Iowa statesheriffs’ and deputies’ association, the Iowa police executiveforum, the Iowa association of chiefs of police and peaceofficers, the Iowa state police association, the Iowa associationof professional fire fighters, the Iowa emergency medicalservices association, the joint council of Iowa fire serviceorganizations, the Iowa department of public safety, the Iowachapter of the association of public safety communicationsofficials-international, inc., the Iowa chapter of the nationalemergency number association, the emergency management divisionof the Iowa department of public defense, and the Iowa departmentof public health, shall adopt rules pursuant to chapter 17Aestablishing minimum standards for training of telecommunicators.For purposes of this section, “telecommunicator” meansa person who receives requests for, or dispatches requests to,emergency response agencies which include, but are not limitedto, law enforcement, fire, rescue, and emergency medical servicesagencies.
