Jerry Simpson started his law enforcement career in 1961 as a Fingerprint Technician with the FBI in Washington, DC. He later returned to his home town of Miami, Florida and worked in the Crime Laboratory Bureau of the Dade County Public Safety Department.

In 1966 Jerry Simpson was appointed a Deputy Sheriff (Detective – Crime Scene Investigator) in the Technical Services Division of the Broward County Sheriff’s Department in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Jerry Simpson later joined the Plantation Police Department in Plantation, Florida. He served as a Police Officer, Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain in that agency. He served as commander of all divisions (including supervision of the Communications Section) of the Police Department before leaving to become the Chief of Police in the Mount Pleasant (SC) Police Department. Mr. Simpson then entered private work as Private Investigator & Polygraph Examiner in the Charleston, South Carolina area.

In 1988 Mr. Simpson was hired as Technical Services Division Commander of the Wichita Falls Police Department in Wichita Falls, Texas. Before retiring from that position in 1998, he was promoted to the position of Administrative Assistant to the Chief of Police. As Technical Services Division Commander, Jerry Simpson was in charge of the Department Communications Section. This Communications Section also dispatched for the Wichita County Sheriff’s Department and the Wichita Falls Fire Department.

In July of 1998 Jerry Simpson retired from Wichita Falls Police Department and moved to the Taos, New Mexico area with his wife Erion. In December of 1998 the Chief of the Taos Police Department asked Mr. Simpson to take over the responsibilities of the Taos Central Communications. Taos Central Communications is a consolidated E-911 and Central Dispatch Center for the Taos County area.

Mr. Simpson has an AS Degree in Criminal Justice Technology from Broward Community College in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and a BA Degree in Criminology from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. In addition, Mr. Simpson completed the Southern Police Institute for Police Executives at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky in 1979, including graduate level courses at the Southern Police Institute. Mr. Simpson has also taken graduate computer courses at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas.

In November 2000, Mr. Simpson was awarded an ENP – Emergency Number Professional designation – after passing the ENP examination for the National Emergency Number Association (NENA).

Mr. Simpson presently serves at 1st Vice President of the New Mexico Chapter of APCO and as Secretary of the New Mexico Chapter of NENA. Jerry Simpson is also the WebMaster of this New Mexico APCO-NENA Web Site.
