Johnie Johnson moved from Tularosa, New Mexico to Carrizozo, New Mexico in June of 1987 to take a position as pastor of the Carrizozo Community Church – a position that Johnie still serves in today. In October of 1988, Johnie was hired by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department as a Dispatcher/Jailer. In 1995, Johnie was promoted to Supervisor of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department E-911 Center.

Early in 1996, Johnie and about a half dozen other E-911 Center Supervisors got together and formed the New Mexico Chapter of NENA. Johnie has been a member, Vice President, and serves as the President of the New Mexico Chapter of NENA. During these years Johnie has worked vigorously on the many issues facing Telecommunicators in the State of New Mexico and the New Mexico Chapter of NENA.

As part of the Curriculum Committee, Johnie has been very involved with the Police Radio Dispatch Section at the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Johnie is also a certified instructor in the Radio Dispatch Section at the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy and instructs when and as needed.

One of the things that Johnie is most proud of is being a part of and a leader in the bringing together of the New Mexico Chapters of APCO and NENA. Through his determined leadership, the umbrella organization of the New Mexico Public Safety Telecommunicators Association has been formed. Brining together all Telecommunicators around the state into one unified organization. Whenever discussion concerning this combined organization would take place, you would always hear Johnie say: “We can do great things together.”

In his “spare time,” over the last 9 years Johnie and his wife, Judy, have been gradually restoring their home in Carrizozo. The house was built in 1907 and whenever Johnie discusses this affectionate issue, he will be heard to say: “This has been a real stretch!”

Mr. Johnson is the President of the New Mexico Chapter of NENA.
