2002 Hero Runner-Up

Brandon Austin:

On the evening of February 2, 2002, eleven-year-old Brandon Austin was at his grandmother’s house, caring for her following a medical procedure she’d had the previous day.  Shortly before 9 p.m., Brandon’s grandmother felt ill and asked him to dial 9-1-1; she then passed out.  Although Brandon wasn’t in his own home, he was able to confirm his grandmother’s address for the dispatcher and he provided information regarding his grandmother’s condition.
