CENTRAL FLORIDA E9-1-1 NENA CHAPTER (CEFA)

MINUTES – CEFA MEETING
Thursday, March 16, 2000

Meeting was called to order at 10:05 AM

Introductions

STATE ISSUES:

Joe Reavy distributed handouts for the May APCO/NENA Conference. The NENAmeeting will be held on Wednesday, May 10 from 1:00 to 5:00. 9-1-1 Coordinatorswill meet Thursday and Friday May 11 & 12.

During the NENA meeting each VP will give a presentation on the topicsassigned during the fall meeting. NENA State offices will also be up forelection. Joe Reavy will not run for Florida Chapter President this year. Allnominations should be directed to Pat Welte.

Discussion on 9-1-1 funds being challenged by local authorities. I.e. Lawenforcement agencies wanting to use this money for radio and CAD systems.

WIRELESS ISSUES:

Bruce Thorburn gave an update on the Wireless Board. Money collected from8/1/99 to 12/31/99 will be distributed at the May meeting. The board hasreceived checks from approximately 55% of the wireless companies. Letters arebeing sent to companies not in compliance.

FHP COMMUNICATIONS CONSOLIDATION:

Chuck Freeman gave a report on the consolidation of Hillsborough, Pinellasand Polk FHP. The entire state will eventually consolidate to six communicationscenters. Unfortunately, most operators are finding other employment rather thanmaking the long drive to another county. This is creating more problems, asthere are fewer operators to answer additional phones.

Barry Mogil discussed the need to re-address placing 9-1-1 Emergency signs onall state highways. These signs should be placed in conjunction with the *FHPsigns.

CEFA ORGANIZATION:

Marilyn Ward inquired about the format in which action items should beaddressed. Chuck Freeman will write a letter to Joe Reavy outlining items to bepresented to the State NENA Board.

Ethel Reed inquired about the format of the CEFA meetings. Database meetingsfollowed in previous years. Steve Latza recommended Database meetings bescheduled twice a year at the spring and fall NENA conferences.

CONFERENCE UPDATE:

Sharon Camp gave a presentation on the recent Database conference. Much waslearned. The next conference is scheduled for July 27 & 28 at SeminoleCounty Public Safety Facility.

CEFA VICE PRESIDENT ELECTION:

Joe Reavy asked for nominations for CEFA VP. Frank Kirk recommended ChuckFreeman remains VP for another year. No other nominations were presented. Chuckwill remain CEFA VP for the year 2000/2001.

OLD/NEW BUSINESS:

Chuck Freeman presented a training document for School Crossing Guardsstatewide. The training manual requires guards to stop and notify multiplevehicles in the event of an emergency. This is no longer applicable since themajority of drivers now have cellular phones.

An updated list of CEFA members was distributed. Please direct anycorrections/additions to Chuck Freeman.

Dick Williams was introduced as Barry Mogil’s replacement upon hisretirement at the end of May. Dick has been the Radio Systems Manager forPinellas County.

The next meeting is scheduled for June 29. Marilyn Ward is checking with FHPin Orlando for a meeting room.
