Call for Participation and Pre-Registration

Background: While standards have been established to meet the FCCs mandates regarding Enhanced Emergency Services (E9-1-1), there still remain many issues relating to their implementation, particularly with the Wireless Phase I and II requirements. The Commission recently noted that “despite the substantial progress to date”, much remains to be done by industry to achieve the “FCCs fundamental goal of having wireless E9-1-1 Phase II capabilities deployed throughout the country”. They further comment that deployment is contingent on the “participation and effective cooperation” of the various stakeholders. Interested parties/stakeholders attempted to resolve some of these issues through an industry-sponsored forum that was disbanded several years ago. Today, these stakeholders are interested in re-establishing the initiative with a more comprehensive scope.
Mission: The Emergency Services Interconnect Forum (ESIF) will be convened to bring the stakeholders together. The Forums mission will be to facilitate the identification and resolution of technical implementation issues related to the interconnection of emergency telephony and related information services.
Scope: The ESIF will be an open, technical forum with the voluntary participation of interested parties to identify and resolve recognized emergency services interconnection issues. The interest of all participants will be served by observing the principles of openness, fairness, consensus, and due process. The ESIF will coordinate with standards and governmental organizations as necessary.
Initial discussions will be limited to the FCCs Wireless Phase I and II mandates but may expand into other areas of emergency services based on need.
