Multiple System/CPE with CAD

Many communication managers ask for systems to interface when what they really want is integration. While many vendors offer integration when what they really deliver is interfacing. Knowing the facts about working with multi-applications in the PSAP could save you aggravation and money.

Background:  Phil Rotheram, Positron Public Safety Systems, Director of Sales, has ten years of experience in the Public Safety industry, and over twenty years in computers and high-tech.  During this time, he has held various positions, ranging from Product Manager, to Director of Marketing for Positron Public Safety Systems Corp.

He has played an influential roll helping to define NENA’s technical standards.  As an active member of the CPE Technical Committee, Chairperson – IWS Study Group, and finally part of the Technical Development Conference planning committee, Phil has participated in the effort to release various industry recommend standards, including leading the effort to produce the first recommend standard for Intelligent Workstations (IWS).

His current roles with NENA, are participating on the NENA Business Affiliate and Annual Conference Review committees.  In addition to the extensive travels for Positron, Phil is also a regular presenter for NENA at various Critical Issues Forums, and for APCO at their Symposiums.

Currently based out of Sacramento, CA, Phil is very aware of most technical issues facing PSAP’s today.  With the added knowledge from a National perspective, he is always available for consultation.  He can be reached at (916) 772-4911 or [email protected].

Privacy Issues in the 9-1-1 Center

Because of the nature of the 9-1-1 business, 9-1-1 centers are in almost constant receipt of information that is confidential in nature. What laws govern the receipt, use and storage of this information? When can medical information be made available to police and fire units? Can the public access confidential information through the Freedom of Information Act? How private are the e-mails and other messages generated on center computers? This timely Educationline course from NENA will provide you with the answers to these and other questions from the attorney presenting the session.

Getting the public tuned into 9-1-1’s mission can have tremendous benefits for your 9-1-1 system. Learn in one hour what has worked, and what has not. Our instructors will then lead you through some effective methods of formulating a public education strategy and implementing your plan.

Debi McGrath and Christy Williams will co-present this course. Both instructors hold seats on the Education Advisory Board of NENA.

Standard Operating Procedures in the 9-1-1 Center

The complexities involved with managing a 9-1-1 center require a solid resource for issues such as training, employee evaluation, and expected behavior. Correctly written and implemented SOP’s are this resource. As the foundation for all 9-1-1 center activities and employee functions, SOP’s must be current and sound. Based on the informative BPC SOP Track, this course will present an overview of issues to consider when developing SOP’s; from format to content. The exchange of ideas and experiences is encouraged so all participants can further their understanding of the need for SOP’s in the 9-1-1 center.
